Pete Olson (TX-22) will not vote to fund Planned Parenthood

Letter from Pete Olson, 22nd District of Texas – August 27, 2012

Thank you for contacting me about women’s health and federal appropriations. I appreciate hearing your thoughts on this important issue.
On July 18, 2012, the House Appropriations Committee published the draft appropriations bill for the Labor, HHS, and Education subcommittee. The draft appropriates $150 billion in discretionary funds, which is $6 billion or 4% below the fiscal year 2012’s level. In addition to other spending reductions, the bill contains several provisions aimed at protecting life, including longstanding abortion funding restrictions.  The legislation also prohibits Planned Parenthood funding unless the organization certifies that it will not provide abortions.  The bill is currently being considered by the Labor/HHS Appropriations Subcommittee and may be changed.
Let me be clear, I am absolutely opposed to any taxpayer funding going toward abortions. I strongly believe that it is unacceptable for millions of pro-life Americans to have their tax dollars used to promote or perform abortions. As a pro-life Member of Congress, I cannot vote for funding to Planned Parenthood, a major abortion provider.
Very respectfully,
Pete Olson
Member of Congress, 22nd District of Texas
