HARTFORD, Conn. (WTW) — Connecticut first lady Cathy Malloy will be speaking at a Hartford rally promoting women’s rights.

The wife of Gov. Dannel Malloy is scheduled to address the crowd at Saturday’s Unite Women Connecticut rally in Bushnell Park. Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman and others are also expected to speak at the event.

The rally is part of a national grass-roots campaign to rally people for women’s rights. It also aims to give women a platform to speak out against laws on female healthcare and other basic rights.

In her time as first lady, Malloy has spoken throughout Connecticut on sexual violence prevention and has supported local rape crisis programs.

On Friday, she was honored with the National Sexual Violence Resource Center’s 2012 Visionary Voice award for her work on sexual violence prevention.
